Can I bring someone else’s waste to the Augusta Regional Landfill?
Only your own waste from your current residence qualifies for the Residential Household Exemption. You must be present with your waste to qualify for this exemption.
Do you recycle plastic?
No, the Augusta Regional Landfill is not a recycling facility. However, there is recycling available on-site provided by Augusta County for cardboard, glass, and aluminum.
Do you accept hazardous waste?

What is considered yard waste?
Yard waste refers to organic materials, such as tree trimmings/branches, smaller than 8 feet in length and 20 inches in diameter. Please note lumber and other construction debris or waste are not permitted in the yard waste pile.
What is considered to be a “Freon Bearing Appliance”?
A “Freon bearing” appliance refers to any item that contains, or has ever contained, Freon or any other type of refrigerant.
Can I take my residential household waste to the active fill area?
Only commercial customers and residential customers with a dump bed may use the active fill area. Exceptions may be made at management’s discretion for heavy bulky items. Please contact us in advance to inquire about such exceptions.
Do you accept cans of paint?
The Augusta Regional Landfill accepts latex-based paint only. We request the paint be dried using an absorbent material such as oil dry before being disposed of with regular waste. All other types of paint are considered hazardous waste—please refer to “Do you accept hazardous waste?” for more details..

While the staff at the Augusta Regional Landfill can answer certain questions about the Convenience Sites located throughout Augusta County, these sites are not operated by the landfill. For most inquiries, please contact:

I’m performing work outside of Augusta County, Staunton, or Waynesboro will you accept my waste?
No, the Augusta Regional Landfill is authorized to accept waste only from the localities of Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro.
What do I do with batteries?
Household disposable batteries (alkaline) may be disposed of with residential household waste.
Vehicle and other lead acid batteries can be dropped off at the public use site under the shed beside the used oil and used antifreeze to be recycled.
All other batteries, including lithium and Ni-Cad, are classified as hazardous waste and will not be accepted.
